I’m completely addicted to BB creams. It doesn’t matter who makes them or what the product claims are, I’ll give them a whirl. I’ve found a few gems that I wouldn’t give up for anything, and found a few that were little more than tinted moisturizer with sunscreen. But only once have I found one that simply didn’t do my skin any favors, and this is that sad tale.
I was very excited to get my hands on the Hydroxatone Anti-Aging BB Cream. While tinted moisturizers are just fine, it makes me feel even better to know that there are little anti-aging gremlins in my products that help keep the wrinkles and age at bay (disclaimer: I know they aren’t gremlins, they are probably more like fairies).
It went on smooth, and looked fantastic. I really liked the finish, and was relieved that it didn’t make my already-oily skin even oilier. I was feeling so good about it that I didn’t do any sort of patch test, which in retrospect, was a huge mistake. After wearing it two days, my face broke out into small, red hives. Honestly, it could have been worse – it could have been an acne outbreak. But my poor face was covered with a reddish rash that would not go away. Because I don’t have very sensitive skin, I was slightly confused. It’s rare for me to get an outbreak of hives, so I wasn’t sure immediately what was happening and kept wearing it an additional day. Also probably a mistake. Once I figured it all out, I stopped wearing it, and the rash went away in about three days.
I looked over the ingredients closely, and didn’t find anything that would make my skin react that I knew of. Titanium dioxide was the only active ingredient listed, and I’ve never had problems with that. It’s just your basic sunscreen. But just in case you find yourself with this problem, here is the ingredient list for you:
So, this BB cream was a fail for me. Which is a huge bummer, because I adore BB creams, and rarely wear anything else. Your skin may not be as freaky as mine currently is, so if you are looking for a good anti-aging BB cream with a great finish, do a patch test and see if this works for you.
